Over the past couple of weeks I've been working on a development project where, by necessity, I've had to use Notes API calls embedded in LotusScript. In addition, we've been migration the code making API calls we use in iDM from an LSX to calls from our LotusScript classes.

"Why?" you may be asking yourself. Will, there's a number of reasons and without going into real technical depth it's to do with functionality and portability.

I can't let this event pass without a mention.

If you've had your head in the sand (or just haven't been watching the blogs) Ed Brill has a new challenge. He's now responsible for the sales of Notes and Domino worldwide. Quite a responsibility.

Best of luck Ed and "see you in Orlando". You can buy me a beer to celebrate then

Is there another storm brewing?

Well, after the Radicati Group "fiasco" there's now another Exchange v Domino report out. Most people seem to think this one's no better than the last in terms of it's accuracy (and also it's data source, independance and analysis).

What's gonna be the result of this one then Ed?

Oh, I'm looking forward to IBM's response to the Radicati report on Monday too

Well, it's been almost a week since my last entry, due in part to a weekend in Poland to celebrate Marzena and Wouter's marriage. I'm gonna cover that story later. For now I want concentrate on a tread that's been unwinding on Ed Brill's blog.

Having driven and flown back from Poland on Monday evening I was in need of some "jollying up" so I started looking through the blogs I normally read to find the source of this required merriment, and there it was! I think there were only about 9 or 10 comments by the time I went to bed but when I check back today it's up to 56.

There are many wise words regarding ethics, professionalism etc but none more pertinent than those from Christopher Byrne. I just want to add my admiration for Ed's control. I'm not sure I could have managed to bite my tongue so well.

Just got another contract for 20 days of development. It needs to be completed in stages over the next 6 weeks (which is nice) allowing me to get on with some other things too.

Excellent!

Monday night the PSU in one of my main Domino servers goes "pop". Tuesday morning, I get a new PSU and put it in the system. Slight problem powering up one of the old SCSI drives but all OK finally. Realised just after lunch that the drive wasn't actually working properly. Spent all of yesterday sorting it out (restores, system utils etc....) and now finally it's up and running again. Phew!! Now to catch up on what I haven't done on Monday and Tuesday.

As those of you in the UK know, there was a severe weather warning issued yesterday. The high winds moved a down-pipe from the gutter so that the rain poured down the wall and behind the lead flashing resulting in water flowing down the inside of the walls in the dinning room.

In the lounge this morning was a 3 inch high bulge in the flooring. Having taken up the newly laid wood panels revealed that the parquet floor beneath had swollen up to cause the bulge. Taking this up revealed no dampness or water but a distinct musky smell indicating at least the past existance of water beneath,

So, I have had guys from the flooring company and the gas board ('cos they cover maintenance on the heating system) all morning. They're coming back on Monday with detectors and Kango hammer drills to dig up the floor and replace the offending pipe.

So, not a lot of work (development that is) by me this morning. Looks like it may be a long night to catch up.

....and I'm trying to finish some code I promised for today. Need to be up at 7:00 to get to Hursley so I'm not late for the course this time. Doesn't look like I'll get much sleep. Serves me right for "enjoying the sun" too much today

Well, the contract at Cheese International officially ended yesterday! Wehey!!!! Strangely, during a telephone conversation with a colleague from CI across the pond, he said to me "Congratulations!!! I hear you've been extended".

Well, that's news to me. I have a few other things to do over the next two weeks. They'll have to allow me to do those too.

What am I talking about. I still haven't been told officially they want me to carry on! Ah, the tribulations of an IT mercenary
