Well. What can I say?

If you read this when you get to Dublin Duffbert, The score was 3-3 at the end of normal time with Carolina scoring all 3 of their goals on power-plays.

They were 3-6 in regular time then, 3 minutes into OT the Oilers get a penalty for hooking. With the Canes power-play record during the regular season, it looked all over for the Oilers. However, the Canes like to play an extra forward when they have the man advantage and this proved to be their downfall

A sloppy, light weighted pass across the ice allowed Pasanni to intercept and score a great goal past Ward.

The 6th game in the series is now on Saturday night in Edmonton. With the Oilers being 3-2 down after five, it's still a tall order for them to win the Stanley cup, but even if they get the victory in 3 days time they'll have to overcome the Canes in Raleigh for the 7th to win.

What a series!!

Go Canes!!!!

It's just before 4am and I'm only just about to go to bed. Why?
  1. There was some work I needed to get done that I couldn't do during the normal working day.
  2. It was my son's 18th birthday so I had to take him down to the pub for his first "legal" pints
  3. I'd missed the 3rd and 4th games in the Stanley Cup final series between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers.

I got 99% of reason 1 completed.

I got 100% of reason 2 completed.

I watched both games. The Canes are now 3-1 up in the series! Mt winning prediction for the Canes still looks good. Duffbert's assertion that the series would be over in 4 games didn't hold out but, the Canes are very close now. Perhaps game 5 will be the last

PS Duffbert, see you in Dublin!

Game 2 in the Stanley Cup final

It's just before 3:30am in the UK and I'm just going to bed.

The reason for the late night (or early morning) is that I've been watching the NHL Stanley Cup final games between The Edmonton Oilers and the Carolina Hurricanes. The second game has less than 10 minutes to go and the Hurricanes are 0-5 in the lead.

I spent 6 weeks in Raleigh NC in 1998 whilst doing some work for IBM. During my stay I went to see the Hurricanes play in Greensboro (I have NO recolection of the score but I think they were playing the Ducks), hence my interest in these games.

I also have to add that it must have been towards the beginning either of the franchise or the clubs relocation to NC as although the stadium could probably have held 10-15,000 spectators there were only around 4 or 5,000 there for the game!

Go Canes, go!!!

It's just before 4am here and I'm only just about to go to bed. Not because I've just finished working (which is normally the case) but because I watched the first of the 7 game series of the NHL Stanley Cup final.

The final this year is between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers.

The first game just ended 4-5 to Carolina with them having started the 3rd period 3-1 down.

The game MVP has to be Cam Ward (the Hurricanes Goaltender) who kept Carolina in the game with some incredible saves.

Now, I need to get some sleep. I'll catch up some more on the details in the morning.

Boing.

Me and the missus went down to Fareham again to have lunch and a few pints with Salty. 5 pints and a Steak and Ale pie filled a small gap.

This evening we (or rather I) sat and watched the Scotland 13 v 35 England rugby match. Not the best game I've ever seen and the scoreline was a little flattering but as World Champions (the Americans were invited) England have everything to lose and our opponents have everything to win so any game is going to be tough. Not least against the old enemy and for The Calcutta Cup!
