The weather this weekend was fabulous. Normally, the weather will be great during the week and, come the weekend, revert back to rain or cloud. Not this weekend!

We spent most of the weekend at a friends house - by the pool - drinking. Excellent.

The forecast for the next 5 days is pretty good too. 33°C (91F) today, 34°C (93F) tomorrow and Wednesday then 28°C (82F) on Thursday and 26°C (79F) on Friday. I wonder what next weekend will bring?

Do you remember the fairy tale of the Queen with the mirror who orders the Woodsman to take the pretty Princess deep into the wood and leave here there to die so she would be the most beautiful woman in the land? Well, I felt a bit like that Woodsman today.

I took my eldest daughter to University today. She's got Digs in a house with three other 1st year students. It doesn't matter how well prepared we think we've made them for "life in the outside world", there's always a nagging doubt in the back of my mind.

Just before we got back she called to say there'd been a small disaster in the house. One of the pipes from the boiler had come loose and water had gone all over the kitchen floor covering one of the power sockets and the fridge. They'd managed to stop the water by turning off a valve and had re-tightened the pipe so everything was pretty much OK now.

They've got a washing machine arriving on Monday morning (they're renting it for £2.50 per week) so she'll get the guy who delivers it to make sure the pipe is fully tightened.

Even though she's only 2 hours drive away, it might as well be 1,000,000 miles.

That was quite pain free.

Well, having been through GCSE results 2 years ago and hen "A" level results this year with my eldest daughter, Tom's GCSE results were almost a let-down (only in-so-much as there wasn't the same level of worry associated with them). He did quite well,

Grade A
Spanish, Physics and English Language

Grade B
Maths, Biology, Geography and English Literature

Grade C
Chemistry and ICT (Information and Communication Technology)

Grade D
Electronics

So for the next 2 years its 5 "A" levels (although one is General Studies and no exam at the end - what's the point of that?).

Another important day.

My son Tom just went to schoool. He's not being over-enthusiastic, it's GCSE results day.

I wonder how he's going to get on?

I'm sure he'll do fine.

It's never as bad as it seems.

Michelle got her "A" level results this morning. She came back from college in floods of tears. The results weren't as good as she'd hoped

She wasn't accepted at her first choice university but, when she was finally able to check, she got a place at Coventry. The course is slightly different there with more emphasis on sports nutrition than biomechanics but as that was the worst past of here "A" levels it's probably for the better.

So, she's now got to notify the authorities of the change of university so her student loan gets paid on time hen tonight she and a number of friends are going to a nightclub in Kingston to celebrate (watch out Kingston).

So, despite the worse than expected results, she's off to university next month for 3 years. Who knows, if she passes her degree and decides to do a Masters she could still do that at Sheffield.

Things are never as bad as they initially seem. There's ALWAYS an alternative!

PS Michelle sends her thanks to all those who wished her well!

Thursday 19th August is a VERY important day in our household. My eldest daughter gets her "A" level results tomorrow. They determine whether she goes to Sheffield Hallam University or not. Everything's crossed, hoping she gets the results I think she deserves.

You'll hear from me in the morning!

The 19th and 26th of this month are 2 very important dates in this household. For those of you who have 16 or 18 year old kids you'll know why. It's the dates that "A" level and GCSE exam results are published!!!!!

My eldest - Michelle - is hoping to get the required grades so that she can go to Sheffield Hallam University to do a BSc (Honours) in Sport and Exercise Science. In essence, the degree cover

Exercise physiology
Sport psychology
Sport nutrition
Functional anatomy
Sport biomechanics

If think that biomechanics is what she wants to specialise in, hence the reason for going to Sheffield Hallam as they have an incredibly well equipped biomechanics lab.

Tom wants to stay on at college to do "A" level Spanish (amongst 4 other subjects). He's had some glowing reports from his Spanish teacher emphasising how good his "accent" is.

I hope they both get at least the grades they're hoping for. Apart from anything else, it'll make my life easier as they can just continue with their chosen education paths. Otherwise........well, that doesn't really bear thinking about.

It's 05:30 so you might be wondering why I'm posting something at this ridiculous time on a Sunday morning. Well, I've just got back from Gatport Airwick having just dropped my daughter and one of her friends off. They, with 4 others are off for 10 days to celebrate the end of their "A" level exams and their coming 3 years at university.

Look out Lanzarote, here they come!!
